  • Do you have excellent communication skills? Are you technologically savvy?
  • Do you have personal or professional experience with disability?
  • Do you have a flexible schedule and reliable transportation?

Consider becoming a Communication Support Specialist!

A Communication Specialist is an individual specifically trained to understand communication support needs of people with disabilities such as intellectual and developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, mental health disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and others, including stroke and disease related disabilities.

A CSS understands the challenges and barriers to effective communication. A CSS can support clients with tools, strategies and accommodations that will offer them an opportunity to participate effectively and communicate to the best of their ability.

The VCSP offers CSS training, mentorship and certification periodically to a select and limited number of qualified individuals. In order to serve as a CSS, a potential candidate must attend the equivalent of 2-3 days of intensive classroom training days and complete a mentorship. Dates and locations are coordinated based on interest and eligibility.
